How to Celebrate 4th of July in and Around Vegas

June 29, 2018Man cooking meat on BBQ grill at a 4th of July party

Celebrating America’s birthday on the 4th of July is the ultimate summer holiday. It’s a day full of good food, exciting fireworks, and coming together as a community. Countless tourists flock to the Las Vegas Strip for the spectacular fireworks show and endless parties, but most locals prefer to enjoy the holiday far away from the Strip. Take a look at some 4th of July activities that appeal more to Las Vegas residents.

Food and Drinks

When you think of food for Independence Day, you can almost hear the sound of burgers sizzling on the grill. But can you also hear the low, grumbling complaints coming from the person grilling? Someone always gets stuck standing over a smoking hot grill while everyone else gets to enjoy the efforts! Because The Ogden offers such a beautiful rooftop pool and sky deck, we’ve come up with some very patriotic meals that you don’t even need a grill to prepare (but we have those too, if you want to stick with the classics!).

Beat the heat with this festive beverage treat – Sparkling Red, White, and Blue Sangria! Just combine all the ingredients into a large pitcher the night before your 4th of July party, put the pitcher in the fridge overnight, then bring it out with some of your favorite party cups the next day and enjoy! You will need:

  • 2 cups of fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup of fresh raspberries
  • 1 lb of fresh strawberries
  • 1 bottle of white wine
  • 1 cup of apple juice or white grape juice

Avoid the hassle of plates, utensils and clean up with these classic twist ups – Firecracker Dogs! All you need are hot dogs, a tube of crescent rolls, wooden skewer sticks, and a block of cheese of your choice. Simply take strips of the crescent dough, wrap it around an uncooked hot dog, stick a wooden skewer through the bottom, and follow the baking instructions on the crescent roll packaging. Once baked and cooled, add a small cube of cheese to the top of the firecracker dogs and BOOM! Explosively easy!

For those guests with a sweet tooth, these are sure to please – Marshmallow Popcorn Bombs! All you need is:

  • 15 cups of popcorn
  • ½ cup of butter
  • 4 cups of mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup of Red, White and Blue M&Ms
  • 1 tsp vanilla

First, place your popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl, then melt the butter over medium heat in a large pan. Next, add the marshmallows and turn the heat to medium low. Cook and stir until all the marshmallows are melted and the mixture is completely smooth. Remove the mixture from heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour the mixture over the popcorn and stir until it is well coated. Finally, stir in the M&Ms and with wet hands, form the popcorn mixture into balls. Lastly, set on waxed paper to cool. With these patriotic snacks, you’ll be able to enjoy time with your guests and everybody’s bellies will be filled with American pride!

Fireworks

Group of people enjoying a fireworks show

Last year, the Las Vegas Independence Day celebration brought in a crowd of over 320,000 people, and this year is sure to exceed that. Travelocity recently dubbed Las Vegas as one of the best locations to experience the 4th of July, so get ready for amazing firework shows both on and off the Strip. Here’s a list of some must-see shows coming for the holiday weekend:

June 30, 2018: The biggest celebration of fireworks takes place the weekend before the 4th. This massive show starts at 9:15pm at Caesars Palace. Get the best view from their Venus Pool party. You can also see the show from Paris Las Vegas atop the Eiffel Tower, Beer Park, Five O’Clock Somewhere at The Flamingo, or Harrah’s Piano Bar patio.

If you’re looking to get away from the Strip but still enjoy the show, check out the party happening at the top of the Plaza Hotel & Casino in Downtown Las Vegas. The event includes a hot dog eating contest, signature drink specials, and a free viewing party by the pool at 7pm. Or, mix it up with the virtual fireworks show during the Fremont Street Experience light show! Red Rock Casino, Green Valley Ranch, and Lake Las Vegas are all known for their local experience.

July 3, 2018: Everybody knows that you could find a crazy pool party somewhere on the Strip and look up to see amazing fireworks above the iconic rooftops of the casinos. For locals, that translates to traffic, too many people, and spending way too much money. What better way to celebrate Independence Day than with America’s sport? The 51’s are hosting their “Fireworks Extravaganza” after playing the Salt Lake Bees on July 3rd.

July 4, 2018: If your looking to celebrate Independence Day on the 4th, you can expect to see a fireworks show at both ends of the Strip. Mandalay Bay’s show will start at 9pm and the Stratosphere Hotel & Casino will follow at 9:15 pm. Whether you’re looking to enjoy live music at Mandalay Bay or enjoy the fireworks from anywhere along the Strip, you are sure to have a spectacular and memorable 4th!

Other Celebrations

If you’re a Las Vegas local and have never been to Boulder City for the 4th of July, then make the Dam City part of your Independence Day plans this year. Boulder City is a great way to experience a small town feel with a tight and loving community. Start off your morning with a free pancake feed hosted by the Rotary Club, then head over to watch an exciting parade and take part in their city-wide water fight! After you dry off, grab your coolers and blankets and make your way to the park, where there is food, drinks, and music to keep you going until the sun goes down. Top the night off with a fantastic fireworks show. On your way home, you’ll  be talking about making the short drive again next year!

Adrenaline junkies, this one is for you! Sundance Helicopters is offering an experience like no other. You will, quite literally, have the best seat in the house this 4th of July. For just $199 per person, Sundance Helicopters will pick you up from your home at The Ogden in a stretch limousine and take you to one of their state-of-the-art helicopters. Then, off you go to experience one of the most breathtaking views you could imagine for Independence Day! While hovering above our great city, enjoy a champagne toast to celebrate the holiday as fireworks boom all around you.

Living in a city like Las Vegas, there is never a shortage of events going on, especially during holidays. While the Strip provides plenty of entertainment, the residents of Las Vegas know that you can find little gems all over the valley to make your holidays exciting and memorable (with less crowds!).
